Biskopsnäs is a farm with roots dating back to the 14th century, beautifully situated by Lake Lohjanjärvi. The name of the farm and the village originates from the time when the Bishop of Turku sought access to the lake’s rich salmon fishing. The site had been inhabited even earlier, as evidenced by the Iron Age graves located on the farm.

For several centuries, Biskopsnäs was a tennant farm under Gerknäs Manor. Over the centuries, the farm and its people have shaped a cultural landscape, surrounded by the great estates of Gerknäs Manor and Svartå Ironworks. The land in the scenic valley, surrounded by high hills, has over the centuries provided everything needed by the estate’s inhabitants and animals. Since 2023, part of the acreage has been planted with Haskap bushes, and the ecological cultivation is irrigated by the same lime-rich water that originally attracted the bishop to the area.

Today, Biskopsnäs lives on as a place where history, nature, and tradition meet — with Lake Lohjanjärvi ever present, a constant reminder of the farm’s origins as the bishop’s fishing waters.
